Swigert Third Graders visit Ellis Island
Each student had been given an identity, and had to navigate a complex series of stations, modeled on the real thing, including the initial Waiting Area, the Medical Inspection, Legal Exams, Board of Special Inquiry, Money Exchange, Human Aid Society, Railroad Tickets, and finally, one of the two ferries - the one to New Jersey for those to be admitted to the U.S.A., and the one to New York for those to be deported and sent back home.
