Bill travels to Portland
Leaving from the cabin, I followed small roads - over Gore Pass, through Toponas, to Craig, up through southeast Wyoming. I spent the first night in Montpelier, Idaho. The second day took me across Idaho and into Oregon, and up to Pendleton. I stopped often at roadside markers and local museums.

I have a new camera, and I mistakenly erased several dozen images taken en route to Portland, thinking I had downloaded them. It is clearly the fault of the camera's previous owner.
At the Columbia River I joined the Lewis and Clark route, as did pioneers, many of whom left their names carved in Register Rock. The Columbia gorge is impressive. It was cut catastrophically (the only place where the Cascade Range is breached) when dams broke upstream. The deep cut left tributary streams high above, and led to numerous waterfalls along its course.
This is the view from my apartment at sunrise, and later in the day. It's at 222 SW Harrison, Portland, OR 97201 (503-499-6603). The mountain is Mt. Hood, the river the Willamette.
