May 20-22, 2000
Jennifer Betz, M.D. and Daniel Liptzin, M.E.S.
Eleven family members gathered to see
Jen and Dan graduate from Penn
- Jen with an M.D. and Dan with an M.E.S.
(Master of Environmental Science).
Mercer Museum. On Saturday, Joan and Bill walked from their hotel (past a dogwood in full bloom) to Jen and Dan's apartment, and they all drove to visit to the Mercer Museum, which houses an incredible collection of historical tools, implements, gadgets, and accoutrements of nineteenth century life. The collection of calfwea-ers (can you guess the missing letter?) reminded us of life on the ranch. The museum building itself is an astonishing castle of poured concrete.

Doctor! On Sunday, May 21 Jennifer received her M.D. degree. In the audience were Jen's fiance Dan, Jen's parents Joan and Bill, Dan's parents Sharon and Ben, Sharon's parents Evelyn and Aser, Dan's sibs Shanna (M.D., Penn Med '93) and Debbie, and Shanna's husband Adam Shear.

Reception. After the ceremony, the graduates and their guests gathered for a luncheon reception. Can you guess which grouping shows the REAL doctors (including doctors-2-b)?

Dinner. That evening, Evelyn and Aser treated all of us to a dinner at Fork's in downtown Philadelphia.

Master! On Monday, May 22 Dan received a Master of Environental Science degree. We then all had lunch at the White Dog Restaurant on campus for a final celebration of the accomplishments of this wonderful and extraordinary couple (who owe it all to their families)

We missed you! All the while we thought of loved ones who couldn't be with us. Happily, we will be seeing them in September for Jen and Dan's wedding. Everybody gave a special wave to Emmy in Abu Dhabi.

Emmy! Emmy, as you can see, the packing proceeded in your absence without a hitch...
