Tony and Connie Ridge visited from Bristol, England. We escaped the 100+ degree heat of Denver for the warm days and cool nights of the high Rockies. They went to watch the beavers every evening; I stayed on the deck. Ant found a tree full of mourning cloak butterfly caterpillars, and hopes that some will pupate so he can take a couple home.
The local NASA reps orbited a couple of rockets one evening.
The wild flowers were pretty pretty, and Bill finally learned how to use his close-up lens. Emmy studied for the MCATs, and on Monday accompanied Kristi to work at the clinic in Dillon.
We built a new log bridge at the Upper Pond, and spotted an amphibian about 8 inches long, with external gills, that we tentatively identified as a necturus (mud puppy). But later, we caught some larvae, and Tony figured out that they were tiger salamanders, and the 'adult' was really a neotenus larva.
We tested the new inflatable rafts at the first beaver pond.
